SPA Modeler

This a a nice big Salamander in 1/32 from Revell. I got this one on sale and is a nice kit as it is but adding a few things here and there makes it a bit more interesting. I got a bunch of CMK resin for it very cheap.

First the obligatory shot of the box.





Using a grinding wheel in my Dremel set at low speed I removed the molded details to make room for the resin parts.



Now the resin part slides in place.



Did the same thing to the opposite side and super glued the parts together with Gorilla Super Glue Gel......great stuff!



I bent my own wires for the seat grab handles and Gorillaled them in place. Used some PPP to fill some gaps as the resin parts are not fitting well even tough they are designed for this particular model kit.

Got the nose wheel unit done and the pit is ready for paint. Got the foot pedals bent and attached.Had to use a lot of PPP on the rear bulkhead due to gaps. So much for being made specially for this Revell kit. It's really easy working in this scale or maybe it's just an easy to work on kit. I will be opening up both gun positions on the fuselage sides so I have the gun well resin details on with Aleenes just to get the correct placement of things to eliminate surpises later on.




Here's the pe sheet. It has a nice IP and much better than the kit's. Lots of nice details to add.


Shot the pit with MM 66 flat acrylic mixed with Future to ge a glossy finish to run my oil washes to deepen details. The legs got MM Acrylic 02 with Future for the washes too.

The CMK resin engine went together and was sprayed with different metalizer shades then started adding wires while using reference pictures.

I will add more wires as I go to busy it up even more. I also got the main gear well painted and washed with oil paint to pop the molded details.

I got the office squared away and added wiring and knobs. To replicate the leather cannon covers, I crumpled up some masking tape, rolled on the barrels and coated them with super glue and when they dried, painted them Vallejo leather. The flash makes them look more red than in reality.



I cut the gun bay doors out and fitted the CMK gun bay details then closed up the fuselage. The kit has a good fit but not so with the CMK parts. Prior to joining the halves, I had to shim and play with angles to make the pit and the gun bays fit. The right gun bay has a huge gap that needs to be filled.




Checked some great reference photos and did some plumbing work in the main gear well.

Holy moly! Awesome detail work going on here!

Beautiful work here so far! The Heinkel is such a cute little fighter, always loved the shape!
Mixing MM paints with Future is new to me. But the result looks nice and shiny. I wonder if this would work with my Gunze or Mr.Paint colours also?

Dumb question: what is this PPP you mentioned?
