AT-ST (All Terrain Scout Transport) - Bandai 1/48

Greetings to all you Padawans and Masters out there!

I'm sure you all heard of the great reputation the Bandai SW-kits could earn in the past two years. There's an ongoing Uuuh and Aaaah through hundreds of modeling threads out there. I've seen people building them in one weekend plus a complete paint job in less than a week while achieving fantastic results. Since I'm not been able to finish one of my running projects for some months now I thought this bugger could be the right thing for my mojo. Breavehearted I pulled the box out of my stash and started to clip the first parts off the sprues. But let's start with the tempting box art:

Image

All parts were hit with a smooth layer of black lacquer primer. I also added some blaster hits on the front armor plate of the turret and a 'scar' on its left side. By now just a box full of stuff:

A pair of silky black legs. Mmmmh...

To this point construction was nothing less than what I expected. The plastic is easy and clean to cut and sand, construction is a breeze. Pure joy. Period.

My goal is to create a small vignette showing a long abandoned and burned out AT-ST in a jungle environment. Some marvelous laser cut (how appropriate  ) paper plants are on their way from Japan to my bench right now. To give the future observers of the scene an idea of the size of the mechanic walker, I'll add this human walker right to its feed:

Now on to some chipping effects...

After two chilly weekend sessions some progress has been made. :writing:

I want the operator's cab to have the burned out appearance of an hedge fond manager. So a first layer of chipped paint was put on a base of Alclad Burned Steel, brightened with a drop of Dark Aluminum. A second chipped layer will follow.

Legs, cab and many other parts got their basic pale blue-grey coat, along with some medium grey shadows. Coming steps will bring further modulation to it.

Wow - nice looking battle damage on that Cockpit.

If I may ask - where did you get that figure?

Beautiful build so far, far away, across the continent, at least. May the Force be with you, Torben. This is a wonderful idea to find mojo with these incredibly detailed kits!

What's the status on this build?

Thank you, Stuart. Please excuse my ridiculously late answer. I thought I'd enabled the notification option. :bag:
The figure is from Dennis Zarnowski. His webstore is called savageforgedminis.com.

Slow but steady progress. I've ordered paper plants from Japan eight weeks ago and I lost hope that they'll ever show up. :poo:
But I started on the base by using a picture frame (wow, how creative!) and Balsa Foam. First time working with this material. It's a dusty affair filing and sanding that stuff. But it's weight to rigidity-ratio is quite convincing.

I also did some more weathering on the AT-ST, pics to follow on the weekend.

Now to some more pin washing followed by a semi-gloss coat as a base for oils and drybrushing.
