Nice work Stuart. Don't feel bad, I binned some kits on the shelf of doom recently and it doesn't bother me at all.

Thanks Mike!

Nah! Me neither. I'm always happy to bin a kit if I'm not really enjoying it.

We’ve been telling him that….

They’re still driving on the wrong side of the road too… :bag: :giggles:

Well January was a month.... Anyway, having had a terminal disaster with the Whirlwind and the Landrover, I HAVE managed ot make some progress on the Hurricane mk.IIC - the Sky undersides are painted.

Image

I don't know why, but I feel like building some small jets this year (I'm sure you can tell from my latest stash additions), so I started with Airfix's new Starter Set Hawk, just to see what it's like.

Image

I'm reasonably impressed, it builds up very much like the old Matchbox Hawk, only with some much nicer surface detail. Airfix have made some very strange design decisions in order to keep the kit simple however - they've omitted the very obvious nose light and pitot, as well as the strakes under the rear fuselage and the APU exhaust. What makes these choices strange to me is I can't imagine any of these would have been difficult for the novice builder, and adding them would have only added four more parts to the kit?

As it is I've drilled the APU exhaust, and have scratched up a landing light and the rear strakes. I've also purchased an AM metal pitot. I didn't add anything to the cockpit other than some generic IP decals I had in the stash. Other than nose niggles, it's a very easy and enjoyable build.

Here's where I am now...

Cheers!

Red Arrows jet looking mighty red. I’ve always wanted to see the Red Arrows demo team. I really need to get that kit. Thus far I’ve seen the Blue Angels once, Thunderbirds twice, the Free Tricolori once.

Jet demo teams that’s high on my list I want to see….

Black Diamonds Jet team

Canada Snowbirds
