I have another large scale Dora that I'll be working on soon and I thought that I might share it here. It will be my third 1/32 Dora and coming on the heels of my recently completed (and repaired) Black 1 flown by Hans Dortenmann. This would be another famous Dora, the color Red 1 of the JV44 Galland's Circus squadron, formed to protect the Me 262 during take-off and landings, where they were most vulnerable. To ensure quick recognition from ground defense, the JV44 Doras were painted with gaudy red and white stripes on the bottom.

There are four positively identified JV44 Doras according to Jerry Crandall's second Dora volume. I will be modeling Lt. Heinz "Heino" Sachsenberg's Red 1.

Lt. Karl-Heinz Hoffmann (Red 4), Oblt. Klaus Faber (Red 13), Lt. Heinz Sachsenberg (Red 1) and Hptm. Waldemar Wübke (Red 3)

Are you guys interested in seeing this one? Or are you overdosed on Doras?

One can never be “overdosed on Dora’s”, particularly your efforts John. I plan this build myself so I shall be watching with particular interest.

Regards,

Thanks for the comments guys! I haven't received the kit or the AM yet but here is a list of what has been ordered...

1. Hasegawa 1/32 Fw 190D-9 model kit
2. Aires 190D-9 resin cockpit set
3. Eduard 190D-9 brass flaps
4. Quickboost 190D-9 radiator cowling
5. Quickboost 190D-9 gun cowling
5. Quickboost 190A gun barrels
6. Eagle Editions 190A/190D-9 Early resin tail wheel
7. Henri Daehne VS111 resin prop
8. HGW 1/32 Luftwaffe seat belts

Similar to my Black 1 build but without the complexity of the Eagle Editions cockpit, which I thought would be a bit of overkill for a canopy-shut configuration, which I am doing. The Aires cockpit was less than 1/2 the price of the Eagle cockpit. I'm also going to take a look at the Quickboost gun cowling. If it fits, great... otherwise, I can always make the necessary modifications to the kit gun cowling, which should offer a perfect fit.

I am SO excited! What a list of components!!!

Does MDC make wheels in 1/32 for the Dora? I thought they made Guns N Wheels, but you have guns.

Awesome project!

Did some research for the Platzschwarm some years ago. Here are my notes regarding Rote 1:
  • W.Nr.: 600424 (Batch: Fieseler, Kassel)
  • Pilot: Lt. Heinz "Wimmersal" Sachsenberg
  • April 1945, München-Riem
  • Slogan on fuselage: "Verkaaft's mei Gwand 'I foahr in Himmel!" ("Sell my clothes, I'm going to heaven" - phonetic spelling in Bavarian idiom)
  • Canopy: "Blasenhaube", Type 8-190.1025
  • Radio Equipment: FuG 16: No sight mast (ring antenna) und no base present.
Coloration:
  • Upper surfaces: RLM 82 / RLM 83, maybe patches in RLM 81
  • Fuselage sides: RLM 76
  • Lower surfaces: Red with irregular wide, white stripes that had also irregular distances to each other
  • Cooler and flaps, engine cowling: RLM 83 (painted by supplier)
  • Big access hatch on port side with red latch markings
  • Spinner: yellow front half, rest is black (formaly black with white spinner, still shining through)
  • Prop blades: RLM 70
Nationality markings:
  • Fuselage: B3 600mm Black/White Balkenkreuze, H3 530mm black swastika

Would those color call outs for the basic camo scheme hold true for this aircraft from that unit?
