Hullo, hullo! I was actually wondering about you, Torben! I’d love to see what you have on the bench (one of my favorite SPAM threads, started by you) these days. I actually started to debate whether or not to unbox one of two 1:48 Aries 1B models designed by Adam Johnson and mastered by Scott Spicer. This model in particular remains the king of kits, and I have left these unbuilt for so long partly from feeling unworthy, mostly from feeling intimidated. Consider the size leap from 1:80 to 1:48: a 6 inch sphere doubles in size. However, I do need to unbox at least one kit to verify contents (resin does indeed feel the effects of heat, for example) and to see how Adam and Scott designed the thrusters. What is particular impressive about the kit is the landing gear operates exactly like the filming miniature!

The ultimate 2001 Aries 1B Model. ‘Nuff said.

Closest match according to Johnson is “G7000.”

Carlos—

I needed that! Thanks for following and finding the way to keep perspectives intact—you need a lot of eyes, basically. Also I sent you an email about that “other thing” and I hope you can help decipher that design....

I do have a molding issue on one of these Aries Big Boy Engines:

I also think I am short one Attitude Thruster as well!

Note to self: I need to make a dedicated thread for the AJA 1/48 Aries. This is good. I was sitting on this kit for years basically, out of fear that I could not pull it off. Despite its size, this is a brilliant kit. I don’t know if it falls together easily (those landing gear struts look complex), but I was worried about finishing this properly and well after hanging out here which is a master class in painting I am just not concerned about paint.

Holy cow—if you ignore the flash and just feast multiple sets of eyes on the details details details—
