Well here you go then - my first attempt at a 1/35 Armor build - Tamiya's Panzer II.

Brush painted with Humbrol Enamels, Washed with Citadel washes and drybrushed with Humbrol weathering powders. I have to say I really enjoyed this build and intend to build a lot more Armor. Any comments welcome.

That’s a fine first effort Stuart.
I would suggest a bit more dust on the markings to tone them down a bit, and some soot at the exhaust.
I prefer my desert subject builds to be on the more dusty side nowadays, but that is just me.

Great tips Stik - by exhaust, do you mean the actual exhaust pipe or these grids?

On the exhaust pipe. The grills are air intakes and fan outlets.

Stuart, your work looks great. Since you asked, my very first thought was, “Very clean,” so I second Carlos. I pulled this photo of British soldiers with a captured Panzer II to illustrate a few of the potential surface ideas: the scrapes of paint are everywhere there is an edge, and the markings are abraded with sand. I think I would flip the tank over and try using pencils to create the scrapes, and artist’s chalk, sifted earth with a strainer—anything you can heavily lay on as a test then wash off again “where the sun won’t shine.” Hit those wheels too. Try out a few ideas.

I can see were you're coming from Bruce, but I might keep this one as it is and take your ideas into account on my next build - my Panzer III. I did hit it with more sand and soot as per Carlos's suggestions though. It looks better with dulled down decals.

I need to do some more research on weathering as a whole, and send some time on youtube. It is pretty much my week point when it comes to modelling.

And not only ”youtubing” but trying & practicing & testing with a real object!
Then you ”dare” to experiment without destroying anything important..
