Hi all,

I regulary use 5 different cements.

- Mr.Cement S
- Tamiya Extra Thin Qucik Setting
- Ammo by Mig
- Tamiya Extra Thin
- UHU Plast



I wanted to see, with a very simple test, which cement makes the strongest bond...

So I took a number of sprue pieces, heated the end of them, flattened them and finally glued them together, adding "enough" of cement on the bond.





After glueing them together, I let them dry / settle in 6 hrs time



And then, the "stress-test" begun...

I just simply started to bend the sprue pieces until something would happen.

The only cement, that succeeded to keep the bond unbrekable, was Mr.Cement S !
The sprue cracked but the bond was strong enough to survive the forces..




All other cements failed, the bond was not strong enough...

Nr 2 was Tamiyas (regular) Extra Thin. Here the bond did not "snap" off, but was sort of slowly separated.


Third and forth place was shared between Tamiyas Extra Thin Quick setting and Ammo by Migs cements. The bond just "snapped" and broke



5th and last place goes to UHU Plastic glue. The bond was weakest and the pieces came off pretty shortly after the bending process started..

Will I now change my view on my "favorite" cements ? Probably not, eventually they are all good cements, they have their advantages all and that comes to either how quickly they settle (Tamiyas Quick setting) or how slowly they settle (UHU) or how the brush works best in different type of builds (Ammos and Mr. Cement having the best brushes).

What I just wanted to compare, how strong the bond is.

Thanks. I mostly use Humbrol and Tamiya Extra Thin. But my primary local shop carry’s most of the Gunze products, based off of your test here, I’ll see if I can pick up some Mr Cement.

Kari! I read this earlier, but I had to work then I came home and had half a protein shake and hot tea so I am wired—to explain my absence and potential exuberance now due to being overstimulated! Sincerely. Thank you so much for the test! Have you tried this? This is good, too!

@Bruce: Nope, have not tried, cannot really say I would have seen this bottle before (or have not saved).
But curious to know, what is the "characteristics" of this cement ?

Mr Cement Deluxe is he standard type, which cures and evaporates slower than S type but the melding process is more guaranteed given enough time is spared to let the glue meld the parts together. I recommend that the Deluxe as the base setter for plastic parts, then use the S type for extra support. Mr Cement S is the thinner of the two—closer to water when it comes viscosity, and because of that it can be absorbed by the plastic surface and evaporate very quickly. I use them together as a "One-Two" bond.

There is also a new one called "Mr Cement SP."

My Japanese has become a little bit rusty... But seems this is a quick setting solution, like Tamiyas!

This will be certainly on the shopping list when that cement one day arrives to Europe...
