Well, there are ways that I could approach this same project and make it take far longer with far more extensive scratch work, etc. This is my middle ground between straight OOB and using just a hull for a near total rebuild. Revell makes a larger scale USS Buckley DE, which used the same hull, but had a different deckhouse and armament set up. That would be the total rebuild route and most likely take me years.

Copy that. Ship builds have always captivated my interest but I know how I am being a sucker for the details. I'm sure it would probably take the rest of my life to complete a project like that. :giggles:

Yes, they can be a time and money pit. There is always one more thing to trick out. Wood decks, turned brass barrels, PE railings, rigging, brass screws, 3-D printed detail items... the bigger the scale, the more you can detail it up....

I am imagining a “Passage of Time” montage where beards are grown to the waist and turn grey as work progresses. I’m excited to see what happens next.

No long beard would happen here... not in my genes... :giggles:

Haha! I had this set aside for inspiration! Are you putting this on a stand or in the ocean waves?

I’ve done ships in my youth years... Arizona, Mighty Mo, Intrepid, Independence, Big E, Tirpitz, to name a few.
There are only two I’ve been wanting to do: USS Courtney and USS Watley. Both are destroyers my dad was on between wars... after Korea and before Vietnam. My dad’s brother and my uncle served on the carrier Independence during Vietnam conflict. I want to one for him soon since he’s now in his 70s and has COPD.

Doing the destroyers is a challenge because I need to find out what class destroyer they are and which kit(s) I need to use for both. I was told to use USS England and USS Sullivan. I need to see the difference to build the correct Courtney and Watley destroyers.

Tom, if you have the hull numbers, just go to Navsource.

It’s a great starting point.

Just found out these:

USS Courtney (DE-1021) is a Dealey Class Destroyer Escort

USS Wadleigh (DD-689) is a Fletcher Class Destroyer

Looks like I'm out of luck in doing USS Courtney
