as a faster and better airborne forward air controller, the USAF used the Skymaster with smoke rockets to mrk the targets in vietnam war, they can better see the small targets as an high and fast flighing F-105 or F-4..but with a plane in very low altitue you are easy to kill by small arms and without balisti protection

this is the rebox from Italeri of the testors and hawk kit from 1966! OOB rescriped the panellines, RBF and color...

Made this old kit look good, this a very important aircraft to the guys on the ground.

Oh so nice....got to get me one or more of those.

A somewhat related Skymaster story....When I was in the Civil Air Patrol, I was told that a few years prior, there were 12-15 of these parked out west. they could be ours if we would go get them. Imagine, over a dozen operable O-2s FREE - since the CAP is a U.S. Air Force auxiliary, we can get surplus USAF items. After taking possession, we could sell, use, whatever. We never went and got them. What a boneheaded move.

Man that looks a hundred times better than the one I did.

Always loved working on the 337 - doing the U/C emergency down check was always interesting, the damn thing jacked up so high it was frighting.

Mike and Stuart..I was told the reason was we didn’t have enough pilots... make two or more trips, got cryin’ out loud.

I got to work with them a bit overseas.... still has its’ uses in a permissive environment with some of the new tools...
