Here is my 1/48th scale Tamiya Spitfire Mk. I from the 92 Squadron in the summer of 1940. Interestingly, the Revell Mk. II is responsible getting me back into this hobby about 15 years ago. This build was inspired by a very moving painting by William S. Phillips I've had hanging in my living room for the better part of a decade now. Its called "A Wing On a Prayer" which features a woman on a bicycle looking up at a handful of Spitfires from 92nd Squadron. I figured it was time to pay homage.

Lets see, I used an Ultracast seat, wheels and an Eduard PE instrument panel. The decals were from the Xtradecal Battle of Britain sheet. The paint is Tamiya with their recommended mixtures.









I couldn't resist this. Two warriors..........

Thanks guys. For my bases, I use a two dollar wooden plaque from a craft's store and stain it. When dry, I tape off a quarter inch or so around the edge (see the base to know what I mean). I then slather on Elmer's white glue with a large paint brush. I then sift real (garden) dirt and model railroad grass on it in various patterns, then turn it over to dump off what doesn't stick. I do this in the discarded model box to conserve the dirt and grass. Repeat if necessary. I usually carve tire ruts into the wet dirt before it dried. It dries rock hard. It takes practice but that's the gist of it. For Pacific bases I have a container of sand to simulate that type of terrain. Nothing fancy.
