One of the nice things that building my Spitfire has reminded me about, was my love of all things RAF, especially the aircraft that the service used in WWII.

Looking at my dust covered collection this evening I was struck by just how many gaps I have - if you look past all the bloody Spitfires there's hardly anything else.

I plan to rectify that - especially considering Airfix and other have produced some really interesting kits over the past few years!

It's about time I built them.

YES!!! The WWII RAF is a LOT more than Spitfires. Typhoons and Tempests, Hurricanes and Mosquitos, Lancaster’s and Stirlings, Wellington, Meteor, Lysander, Beaufighter... not even counting Lend Lease Aircraft... where do you start? where do you end?

That's a very good point Carlos - I have an Encyclopedia of British WWII aircraft and it is rather thick - and that's before you add in Lend Lease. All of what I have already is the single engine fighters - but only one bomber, and that's the Battle. I have no multi-engine builds or anything else.

I do have that Hurricane to start with, a DC-3, and this...



I'd also like build some of the medium and heavy bombers - most of which have been recently re-tooled.

You know, personally I’m not much for commemorative marking schemes. D-Day markings or similar markings on Gray F-15s or F-16s don’t do it for me. But when they go the whole route to include the throwback aircraft camo scheme like on the Battle of Britain Typhoon or how the US Navy did for the Centennial Anniversary of Naval Avaition, well then it just looks so right.

I always say - I'd rather have a Polish pilot in a Hurricane than a Brit in a Spitfire. I can say that because I'm 1/2 English - my mother lived in Liverpool during the raids. That said - my first British build (since a boy) was a Spitfire, but I now have a Hurricane and I'm looking for the 303 squadron markings

Look forward to seeing your British collection grow. I must be the only British model builder who has never built a Spitfire, and i plan on keeping it that way. There is a lot of other great subjects out there.

Carlos, completly agree there, that Typhoon looks much better than the one they did with the invasion strips.
