I am still working on the Liberty Belle, and also started this De Havilland D.H.2.



The gun and engine were less than to be desired.



So, I ordered replacements.



Here's a comparison on the gun.



The gun is suppose to be liquid cooled, so here is my first attempt at modifying.

You've done a nice job of that conversion. It's interesting because I thought the Vickers Guns used on aircraft were all air-cooled. I wonder if it's anything to do with it being mounted in the nose.

Looking forward to seeing more.

They were air cooled. The jacket had vents. I think the design was more to force cool air to the barrels, and allow it to vent at the rear. Water cooled guns added un needed excess weight. High altitude air being much cooler, and aerial guns would not have the sustained rates of fire like ground mount guns to require the liquid cooling.

Very Interesting, I assumed the large barrel case meant liquid cooled. I am using 1/32 scale pics to add detail. And this pic made me think the case held liquid.



Clearly it should look like this.



Thanks Stikpusher, I think will try to copy the air cooled. We shall see how it turns out.

Meanwhile, I started detailing the non-existent interior. First I filed the 'REVELL c 1981' and part numbers off. Then I used this photo to base my interior on.

These are Lewis guns, not Vickers. That was the other type carried by WWI British aircraft. Some versions had the cooling shroud, some did not.





some had a shroud that came forward of the muzzle (a few Stormtroopers carried those in the original Star Wars)

Well more homework to figure out what the gun should look like, thanks for the info.
