Fleet Defender...

I've been playing a bit of Mircoprose's 'Fleet Defender' from the 80's on my PC recently...

It's put an image in my head to build an early F-14A in a high viz scheme.

I suppose the kit to go for is the Tamiya Kit but it is quite a lot above bit above my normal price range, however I'm seeing a lot of Revell and Hasegawa kits for about a third of the price - in fact there's a Revell on ebay for £12-00...

Cheers!

Wait!!! Let me stop you before you make a mistake! The Revell Tomcat is a nightmare! I've never been able to build one that looked even close to decent. Find any other one (Hasegawa, Hobby Boss, Tamiya) other than that one.

lol! Don't worry Mike I'm not laying down any money yet - Really I want to build the Tamiya kit but I might have to wait for my Birthday for that. What's the Hasegawa kit like - those seem to go for about £25

I bought the Tamiya D kit last year. Pricey but worth it.
Bought it for my 1st transplant anniversary. I felt I deserved it.
I love the Cat. I have one in every scale from 1/700 to 1/48. Missing 1/32.

It's not bad. A little over engineered but better than the Revell one. The Hobby Boss one has some shape issues and is way too expensive. I have the Academy one which is a repop (to some degree) of the Revell one. I'm waiting to get the Tamiya one so I can get rid of it.

I think that's a very fitting pressie - Great aircraft though. Can you get one in 1/32? That would be massive!

Thanks for the tips Mike. I'm not necessarily stuck on 1/48 either - the Hasegawa 1/72 is still a pretty damn big model. I had one in the stash the year before last and sold it... told you I was an idiot... :headslap:

I read a few comments on a Facebook group that said that scheme was done to death - which is a bit stupid if you ask me, it's done over done if you happen to have one already. Personally I really like it.
