I don't know what it was that finally prompted the gnomes to take up arms. Maybe it was one too many gopher invasions. Perhaps it was the overwhelming gaudiness of neighboring plastic pink flamingos encroaching on their ancestral homeland. Or maybe they just finally got tired of the media portraying them as traveling morons. Either way, they've had enough and they're out for blood..."

Yes, combat garden gnomes. After serious consideration about which ones to get (they come in a variety of poses), I bought these two guys to protect my new home. Here are some pictures of them with a beer can for scale reference. My first step will be to sand and file them before I attach their weapons and the one guy's hand. I spent about an hour on Photobucket editing these pictures but none of my work got saved so please excuse the quality.

I'm currently sanding them before assembly. When these guys are done no pest will dare invade our garden!!!

I got them both sanded yesterday, breaking an ear off of one of the process, but should be able to get it glued back on pretty easily. Next comes assembly!

I just wish I didn't have to work today . . .

I think these are the greatest invention to ever hit the garden. A friend of mine purchased a bunch of them, painted them in opposing uniforms and has them waging "war" in his wife's flower garden, complete with a few destroyed gazing orbs!

Ironically, he thinks my diorama building is strange....

He must be rich as they're not exactly the least expensive things in the world. There were at least three more I wanted and I'd have bought them all but two was already over my budget.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm going to paint them in some sort of US color scheme, not the traditional red hat and blue jacket. Maybe include some divisional shoulder insignia and rank. I had a fleeting thought of putting them in tiger stripe camo as a LRRP unit but having never attempted something like this I'm not sure I can pull it off. They would look cool though . . .

I like the camo idea, and will admit, that although a LRRP scheme would be difficult, imagine trying to replicate the modern ACU digital pattern!

I think you should give them Ranger tabs.

I immediately dismissed digital camo, although the thought did cross my mind. Now that I'm thinking about it, my wife can sew, to quote Three Amigos, "Sew like the wind!" If I asked she'd probably dig up some tiger stripe material and make uniforms for them . . . hmmm.

Ranger tabs are a possibility. At first I thought the huge 1st Cav insignia would be a pretty easy one to paint (and add color) but maybe decals can be found in this size for other units? Tiger stripes would be SO awesome though!!! What a dilemma! Oh, the humanity!!!

First things first. Tomorrow they get primed and I might get to painting the M-16 if I'm lucky.
