Trumpeter 1/48 MiG-23M Wojska Lotnicze i Obrony Powietrznej

Here is a rare (for me) non-WW2 aircraft that I started in May 2015 and completed in August 2016. It's a 1/48 scale MiG-23M kit by Trumpeter and I added quite a few aftermarket items to the build:

1. Aires resin cockpit
2. Aires resin exhaust nozzle
3. Eduard resin wheels
4. Eduard resin wheel wells
5. Dream Model metal pitot tube
6. Model Maker decals

Originally started as part of a jet group build. At the time, I was just starting to delve into the aftermarket realm and I think the sheer amount of goodies that I added was too overwhelming to deal with at the time. The group build ended without me finishing the kit and it was boxed up and put on a shelf. After 2 months, I dug the kit out and started working on it again. I was able get the major components together and even completed the tedious seam work. But I ran out of steam AGAIN after the camo didn't come out as I had envisioned. The painted airframe was placed in a plastic bag where it would be protected from dust and I could see the poor MiG in a bag every time I entered my little workshop in the garage. Ten months later, I finally worked up enough motivation to drag this thing across the finish line.

It's not a great build by any means and there lots of flaws and little broken parts here and there that I didn't bother to replace. But I am proud that I finally finished it.

That is some very beautiful work John! The end results are well worth whatever trials you went thru to get there. :shoutout:

Erster!
Okay John, now it's official: You can also master jets. Not that there was any doubt about it. It's just proven now.
Overall a stunning build. Surprisingly clean for a jkim, though.

P.S.: Okay, Zweiter!. Stik beat me... :ballbat:

Thank you Carlos! It was a combination of too much aftermarket and an unfamiliar subject that cause so many delays on this build. I'v always liked the look of the MiG-23... that distinct tail-down squat and the funky splay of the landing gear legs. So I'm glad I was able to get this one done!

Thanks Torben! I don't know about mastering but I gave it a go and happy to have gotten it done. But I agree... much too clean for a JKim build!

Thank you so much Peter! Grateful for you input as your expertise and execution in building jet fighters far exceeds my own.

Thanks Clint! Hey, I can even do a MiG at 1/72 scale!

Whatever it was, it's long gone by now. The MiG-15 was built in 2016 and remains the only 1/72 build I've ever done. But who knows right?
