Caveat Emperor: reference will be drawn from four surviving models of “A New Hope” which were well documented. Three of these are, I hope, safe in the Lucasfilm/Disney Archives. The Edlund TIE is in a private collection.
I: SURVIVORS
- Star Wars Technical Journal TIE
Chronicles TIE (Vader’s Wingman)
Richard Edlund’s Damaged Wing TIE
Pentagon TIE
First, one featured in the “Star Wars Technical Journal” book by Shane Johnson.
TECHNICAL JOURNAL
Second, the “Chronicles TIE.”
THE CHRONICLES
This bird has certain details painted with a darker grey shade. There are small yellow markings above the right canon, as well as various dry transfer markings and water slide decals. My theory is this model faced out closest to the camera during the Trench Run sequence, therefore the ILM Model Shop added the exterior details to create more verisimilitude to its appearance. Most of the TIE Fighters had no decals, and only light graphite weathering done to them.
THE EDLUND DAMAGED WING
Third, the “Edlund damaged wing TIE.” The "Edlund" TIE was the one with the damaged right wing used for ANH / Episode 4. Note: That it was an original Ep.IV model. It hadn't been messed with (ie: wings, body parts swapped out) save for the replacing of the top hatch cover (which was an ILM casting). Likely is more "original" than the ones on display with the tours which we've seen, at times, to have ROTJ bodies with ESB wings.
Fourth, the “Pentagon TIE.”
II: NOMENCLATURE “Star Wars Ships”
III: PROJECT
Subject call sign: Black Two
AKA 1: Vader’s Wingman
AKA 2: The Wingman
Scale: 1/24
- STL File Artist/Creator: Alain Rivard
STL Files Printer/Fabricator: Clint Gibbs
The majority of the model will be fabricated in resin and filament. Photos by Floki.
Note I wasn’t happy with the layout of text and images for the first post so I shuffled the deck and rearranged items to make my intentions even more clear.

I'll try to get some photos for you tonight Bruce with my camera, the white balance on my phone keeps throwing everything yellow.
