Hawker Sea Fury F.B Mk. II

Post by keavdog »

Since I recently finished a Hurricane, I thought I'd start with the Sea Fury and we'll see if I get to the Hurricane this year :hmm:
I've built this kit in the past and finished it in overall sea blue - fun little kit, but it has a single piece thick canopy and you can't see any interior once it's buttoned up. Sad part is, it comes with a nice photoetch fret which builds up into a nicely detailed cockpit so I'm scratching my head here - I guess I could use the PE experience. Anyhow, not a lot of parts, should be an easyish one. I'm doing the livery on the cover - Australian navy.

I do believe that Squadron/True Details made a vacuform canopy for this kit. Or perhaps Falcon does. In any case, there should be a vacuform canopy out there for this kit if you want to show off the PE cockpit work.

-edit: a quick check of Scalemates says yes to both items. And there is a vac canopy by Airwaves as well.

Found the old squadron pair on ebay. Little more than I wanted to pay, but not bad- thanks for the suggestion, been a while since I've used vacuformed canopies. Ever use canopy masks on vacuform? :hmm:

I’ve masked them myself... it’s not that hard... just support them from the inside because of their flexibility.

Mock up - fit looks pretty good. Super frustrated with the PE, I'll press on because I suppose it's my lack of experience but my gut says button it up, put the thick canopy on and focus on the finish. There are PE parts all over my hobby room :headbang:

Sorry, but I had to chuckle at the comment about yhePE... I would go with your gut. There will be other opportunities to do PE stuff.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Back at the bench.
The pit that will never be seen

And buttoned up - a bit of wing root work, other than that a pretty nice fit

It is a pity that you won’t see that cockpit because that is excellent work!
