Carrier aircraft are not sitting in a nice protective hardened aircraft shelter.
Just look at pics to see whats happening to the F-35's already
Very true, they're looking pretty beaten up already.

I've done a bit more :quotes: weathering :quotes: to the Tomcat paint, maybe not very accurate but it certainly looks more interesting.

I've got to do a bit more to the bottom and then I have to repaint the U/C legs and doors before a pre-decal gloss coat.
Did these all over grey birds still have the red edges to all the gear doors? :hmm:

Cheers!

That looks great! Well done, sir.

You're welcome! I just said that because its true. You don't often see the weathering applied that really exists on these.

Thanks Lyle, I thought it would be fun to have a go, it's actually not that difficult with a stippling brush.

I'm pretty much done with the pre-decal weathering. After I've gloss coated (and decalled it) I'll give it an all over grime wash.

I might actually paint up the stores before I decal though.

It's been blooming hot here today, 30'C I'd say and it's supposed to go up to 40'C over the next few days. Not a lot to you guys in the desert obviously but bear in mind we don't generally have airconditioned houses here in the UK. As it is I've de-camped out into the garden today under a couple of make-shift sun screens...

This is one I built for the kids...

And this is where I've been working on the Tomcat and the Clipper this afternoon.

Cheers!

30 to 40 C? That is hot, even in centigrade! We have been in the low to mid 30s and hit 38 a few days ago. Supposed to get there again later this week. Today is a rainy day, which we need. We are technically in a moderate drought condition.

Nice encampments! We just put $350.00 in one of our AC units.

To answer your question, yes ALL US Navy aircraft have red outlines around the gear doors.

And I'd guess not many folks have AC. BTW the mottling on the F-14 looks fantastic. Well done.
Thanks,
John
