SPA Modeler

Picked this up for cheap at an IPMS meeting, and decided to build it OOB as a canvas for practicing my airbrush skills.


detail is so-so, panel lines are kinda large, and fine detail is almost non existent. But, Im not too picky.


How about the decals, you say? Ugh. Terribad. Just no. They look more like stickers.


Lucky for me I found a sheet of 1/72 spares--almost full stencils and markings from an f-18 kit. And TIGER STRIPES!!! Cant pass up a tiger-striped tiger now can I?

ok, so maybe not completely OOB, as the pilot figure was more of a blob? Picked this little guy out of the spares to use instead. Here he is all painted. This will help spruce up the cockpit as the ejection seat leaves so much to be desired...


the detail in the cockpit is actually pretty good. But some of the details extend pass the seat. Was there a two-seater planned? I dont know.




the rest of the plane builds up quickly, but there was some gaps around the wing roots and intakes. Whoo sanding.

What colours are you gonna put with the tiger stripes?

Putting in a pilot is also my favorite way to fill up a cockpit when I find details lacking.

I wonder if this Minihobby is an early variant of Trumpeter and the likes. And I wonder if this is their own mould or a copy (like Kitech, Zhengdefu). Not that it matters much, it looks like a nice little kit.

Tiger meet colors; Darker orange on the top, yellow-ish on the sides, and cream on the belly.

Guy I got it from said it was an early trumpeter kit, but re-boxed

Y'know what, I find that sometimes I NEED a quick-build kit just to get myself going again, especially in the summer. Shaping up nicely.

Not much to add in the way of pics, just sanding and such. Now Ive just gotta wait for teh clear parts glue to dry, and its ready for paint!
