Revell [Ex-Aurora ‘64] 1/8 BATMAN!!!!

Post by speedgraflex »

Gentle Reader,

Another trip down Memory Lane. I never built this kit, but I remember seeing a dust covered version peering out at me from the shelf in the basement of Mr Billy’s house. I used to do homework with Greg and his little brother after school in the basement - and occasionally play Dungeons & Dragons and a whole bunch of video games. Good times.

I am doing this Bat in the Seventies comic book style of Neal Adams. He’s by far one of the best artists of the Batman. ‘Nuff said.

Aurora!

The updated head looks way better. Not quite Adam West the best batman :giggles:
March as one, Don't look back
Odin's sons... Attack!
Unleash hell! Do not repent! Warfare grants us no lament
Let your weapons slash and tear This is no place for fear
Hold the lines! Move as one! In unity our victory's won
Our shields will form a mighty wall
United we shall never fall

Well, is he really? I liked the Christian Bale movies myself.

Oh very cool! The 60’s show was a favorite of mine back then. Same Bat time, same Bat channel… I am looking forward to seeing what you do with this one.

Thanks for your replies, Clint, Mike and Carlos. Sincerely. I appreciate your words and have learned from each of you, not just to be a little better modeler (that takes time) but to be a better informed member of the model building community as well.

The 1999 Revell kit features hardened white plastic which is extremely resistant to superglue; superglue is how I learned and I most enjoy building (Wham, Bang, Thank you, ma’am!) so I tried using Mr Cement in the purple bottle. Whatever. The plastic didn’t even begin to melt, so I backed up that with a thin stream of super glue. That didn’t really work either so I back filled the joins and filled in the head opening with black Milliput.

As much as I like the Revell changes, I picked up a $13 resin version from Escape Hatch Hobbies.

Also I am considering this change to the positioning of the figure and hanging the top of his cape on the upper tree branch.

What the fills looks like on his torso.

Milliput is so useful! It's looking good Bruce.

Thank you, Clint.

Head/cape fitting. I drilled holes for a post between torso and head.

Nice progress Bruce. Are you planning to paint him comic book art style, or true life style?

Carlos! Thank you for writing. That is a darn good question. Realism, but in blue and grey!

Ha! My bro-in-law just finished the original Batman kit recently. He already did Spider-Man too. He started building mainly figure kits during the winter to keep him busy while retired. He’s done quite a few of the old vintage Aurora Monster kits (he wants to collect the whole series). Thus far, he has done Wolfman, Mummy, Dracula, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde, and Phantom of the Opera. He still needs to do the Creature from Black Lagoon and Frankenstein.

I believe there’s 13 in the series but I’m not 100% positive. I think the Witch and The Forgotten Prisoner are two I can think on top of my head. I told him to get the original King Kong, Godzilla, and Ghidra.

Since he’s done Batman, I gotta tell him to get Superboy and Superman too. I did those in my youth years. I think there’s Supergirl too.
