Flying Tigers

Post by Stikpusher »

One more group of aircraft builds with a common theme is this, THE Flying Tigers. Aircraft of the AVG/23rd Fighter Group in 1/48th scale. I decided to latch on to them when my son was assigned to the 23rd as his first assignment in the USAF after Tech School. And really, it doesn’t get much cooler, aircraft with shark mouths. They may not have been the first, nor the only unit to do so, but they make it look best. (Although I’ll admit that I am quite biased there)
Anyways these are the kits and/or decals that I have slated for the collection…
Kits with or separate decal sheets for AVG/23rd markings
P-40B (started)
P-40E
P-51D
F-89D
A-10A
Decals only, in need of a kit
F-105D
Looking to acquire kits with markings
A-7D
P-51B
working on getting decals for
F-86D

Nice! One of my favorite Air Force squadrons. Don't forget the A-10C.

I prefer their A-10A Charcoal Lizard camo days when they flew air support for us back in the day. :hmm:

Love the Lizard Camo A-10s!

:hmm: I don't really like shark-mouth schemes on aircraft that don't have a large chin intake, as they don't look like sharks, but it really works on the A-10 - it's probably that blooming great 30mm sticking out the front...

Like Telly Savalas and his cigar!

A collection of SharkMouths over the years would look awesome all lined up.
Thanks,

Nice work Gary! I have one of those started many years ago and still sidelined. I really need to get back on it.

Of course it’s all this kid’s fault for my hare brained concept…

And a visit to this place five years ago….

You’re welcome Gary. Here is the thread with photos of all the aircraft on display in the air park that I posted back in ‘17 shortly after our visits to Moody AFB.
