This link is to a site that has a brief history of how the Cat came into its own.

This is the kit I will be doing but one of the iconic Black Cats.

The PBY-5 was a sea plane only wile the 5A, Being the most recognized, is an amphibian.
The Brits had them from lend lease and gave the PBY its moniker "Catalina". Use primarily at the beginning of the was for recon and SAR. It was used in the pacific to directly attack the Japanese and one of the most successful schemes and purposes were anti shipping and ASW.

I don't know if I will do much detail of the interior because at this point it would be futile to do it and expect people to really see inside.
Ill have most of the interior started tomorrow.

Now in lieu of finishing up the 110 that is giving me fits now and other aircraft as well, I am doing this Monogran PBY-5 instead. This will be a replication of one of the Black Cats of the pacific. I hope, hope, hope I will not fumble this ball but then my completion rate this past year has been sorely lacking.

That Catalina kit is one of those kits I often see at the LHS, I take it out, have a look, want to buy it, but then I think, "where am I going to put such a giant plane".... good to see that some is building these kits, they look really nice.

The "black cats" have always intrigued me because of their nocturnal harassment bombing missions....just sayin'... :Shark:

Now to get this thread back on track.
Today I cleaned out some of the fuse and put the inside stuff inside. I am surprised to see how much room is wasted inside this kit but then you really wont see any of it any way. I sewed up the fuse and laid on some of that Rustoleum black primer, that stuff is pretty dang good. I dont have to spray it black but the metallic I choose to show wear will be a different story.

Nice cat! I'm actually looking for a distressed version of this model so I can build it as a basic model for a friend to hang in his Tiki Hut. I do love the interior work you did on this. Looking forward to seeing more.

It was a busy day today. Although it doesn't look like much was done. I got all the black things black and even assembled the flying surfaces, put the canopy in and starting some weathering.
more to come for sure.
