Re: So I had this crazy idea...
I was thinking about this very thing a week or so ago. Build a kit with just half showing and wings sticking out. Take this a step further and grab an old photo as a backdrop and insert the kit onto the pic and suddenly you got 2D/3D coming together. You could even tilt the bird slightly. I would want to use a smaller scale for this, like 72nd or smaller. However, imagine a picture frame say 3 feet long by 2.5 feet tall with an old black and white pic of a group of B-17s in formation, then a 3D kit sticking out of the pic. You could add a P-51 in smaller scale for forced perspective as well. It would have to be placed so you can't walk right up to it as that would ruin the effect. But when viewed from a few to several feet away would be very cool indeed. I'm gonna keep something like this is mind. I've seen it done with Star Wars, why not WWII?

I know a guy on another forum who recreates boxart with built models and painted backdrops...
Here's the link - just for copyright (it'd about half way down) , although I'm sure he won't mind me sharing.

I was looking for good examples of that on Pinterest. There was one where they hid the wires as if the aircraft was coming out of the clouds.

Re: So I had this crazy idea...
I think this is a great bunch of ideas. I thought about finding a cool pic of a tank in the foreground and scaling the pic down to match the kit then grafting the kit onto the photo. So you can see both the black and white image of the tank with some of it coming out of the pic in color and 3d. Would work for just about anything you can dream up. Hmm, I'm gonna have to work on this.
Cut and turn you kit to perfectly align and fit the picture and show some of the pic and some of the your kit tank. The sky would be the limit with this. I don't think it would be too hard either. It would look like a B&W coming to life. Great idea!!

I've seen several of those pics with half the aircraft mounted to a picture at the Nationals. Looks great! One guy took it a bit further: he built half the kit and mounted it on a mirror do it looked like a whole plane!

“Bomb” is a most qualified subject. IIRC, that tank fought from D-Day to VE Day, survived the whole war, and is now on display in Canada.
