Minicraft Models

Post by LyleW »

I wonder what's up with Minicraft? Went to their website and it tells me that:

"Minicraft Models Temporarily Closed, Enter Password to Enter"
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Looks like they are gone. On Britmodeler and a couple of other sites, it has been noted that they ceased operations in November 2022.

Minicraft has something of a checkered history. When they partnered up with Hasegawa, and later Academy, they offered lower cost versions of those companies’ kits. When they went on their own, their prices skyrocketed. Yet there was no increase in quality for the higher price, instead their own mods to the kits simplified such kits. Hopefully they will come back with a better business method.

For some reason I associated Minicraft with only 1:144 scale models, but they indeed had more scales in their range.

Bummer! They aren't the greatest kits but they're good. I've built several of their airliners and the Mentor was a nice little kit

The Skyrocket was made by Miniart and it wasn’t too bad of a kit to build. I guess it depends on the subject.

I am fairly certain I built one their 1/72 B24 kits many, many years ago. The one with the Dragon and His Tail noseart. I thought it was pretty good at the time, but that was at least 15 years ago...I should try tracking it down if they are kaput and prices haven't gone wild.

Interesting. You used to be able to get their kits at Hobby Lobby. I did the KC-135 not all that long ago.

That's a really looking build Mike.

It's always sad when a modelling company closes. I've only had experience of the Bonaza I currently have on the shelf.

Very nice, Mike. I must’ve not noticed it at HL. Need to get one....
