A few mods I made:
1) Master Model brass gun barrels
2) Added a few Quickboost antennas.
3) Scratch build the whip antenna.
4) Added quick boost Mk8 gunsight (modified slightly).
5) Replaced wingtip and tail light.
6) Kit ordnance was used, but I replaced the fuse mechanism on the Mk82's and converted two of the daisy-cutters into standard mk82's.
7) I decided the 'mystery bombs' were Napalm so I painted them aluminum...

Paint is Tamiya Acrylics and Lacquers.

Decals are Cutting Edge.

Now I need to get the one done with a big bumble bee on the tail! Thank you Monogram for this wonderful kit![/size]

Ok Monogram, let me get this straight... The first step is to attach the tail hook so it can get broken off during the remaining phases of the build? :headslap: WRONG! :nono:

That's better...

Let's save the Pitot tube while we are at it (and remove those fuselage spine antenna as well -- not shown)
Image

One thing I love about this kit is that there is only one part you really need to install before you glue the fuselage halves together...
Image

So I did that and got the fuselage joined.
Image

A piece of stretched sprue is used to reinforce to upper fuselage seam..
Image

Dry fitting the fuselage tub through the bottom opening. This will be installed much later...

I was gonna say that the tail hook was mostly internal after installation in step one. Now the pitot tube on the other hand... :hmm:

Cleaning up these gear doors was a monumental task. I didn't even bother with the ejector pin marks. These molds are in really bad shape. If I build another one of these, it's going to be an original boxing.. :headbang:

I finally got the wings together after dealing with the gear doors.

Also got the engine/cowling installed, which was also an adventure!

I'm surprised at how much enjoyment I am actually getting out of this kit. It's building up beautifully. And to think , when I looked in the box a year or so go when I bought it, I almost returned it. The latest release is a horrible looking beast in the box, but it's just a diamond in the rough. I was also very surprised earlier today when I took the clear parts off the tree and cleaned them up--The windscreen fit is perfect (very uncommon for a Monogram kit!)

I got that kit as a white box release and built it probably in 1989 or so. Back then it was as troublefree as can be. I have the AD-6 USN Korean War issue in my stash to build. That one I’m gonna backdate a bit.

I have that one too as well as the original release in the stash. Never built the Sea Blue version, but I certainly want to one day. Not going to modify to be an AD though, that's too much work even for me
