Re: John's Monogram 1/48 P-51B
More photos to follow tomorrow. The decals are by Mike Grant and they were great to apply. There were differences between the Monogram marking and painting instruction, but except for the serial number which was a different number, I painted it according to the Monogram instructions and applied only the part of the Grant decals that were represented on the Monogram decal sheet. I don't know about the rest of you but the only thing I can see of black stencils on an OD airplane is the silvering. The Mike Grant decal sheet also covers two aluminum airplanes, better to use the stencils for one of them. The Monogram decals had only the red decals for the fuel fillers. Speaking of filler, the only filler on this model is some Aves Epoxy Clay on the radiator inlet. Pretty amazing. Maybe the reason we didn't use filler in the old days was that it wasn't needed?

Oh, wow...that looks great!
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Great looking finish John! One down, one to go.

Yep, Carlos, I am a half made man!
Here's more pictures than you will want to see. The last one is with the one I built in 1965 or 66, along with a Hawk D from the same time. I have always thought Hawk captured the D very well. It sadly became a gear up model this morning, the landing gear struts had multiple fractures probably from the Hawk P-47 that was sitting on top of it.
