Thanks, Lyle. I’ve been working on storyboards for a project and my free time evaporated. Meanwhile my favorite eBay seller rebelalpha listed an online auction for the same kit plus a True Details cockpit for the 1/72 Hasegawa version. I won the auction so I’m waiting for the kit to be sent!

Re: Betty Jane
Well, two of the same kit would still fulfill the requirements of the GB…

Hi Carlos! I’m still thinking the second kit ought to be another aircraft, maybe the 1/72 Bearcat, although yesterday I spent a really fun hour searching all of the Monogram armor kits!

Re: Betty Jane
High-ho, Silver!
Been awhile.
Blue Box (Sixties) version has better fit and detailing. See the fasteners! Beautiful. I carefully preserved the raised panel lines but sanded the top and bottom areas for better fit. My intention is to paint and assemble the fuselage halves as independent pieces, add the paneling variations, stripes, even the insignias, then sandwich whatever cockpit I choose in between them. The upper cowling will be painted with anti-glare black or black green once I have the halves joined.
My goal is to build a project honoring the kit as much as the aircraft, so I intend to highlight the sculpted pieces as much as possible. I don’t want to overshadow the aircraft, but is that even possible with a Mustang? It’s not.
Production notes: this is Tamiya Gloss Aluminum. Anyone who follows me knows I started with Tamiya paints in 2012 when I started building the AMT Enterprise. Tamiya advises that this paint formula works best over a gloss black base. I didn’t do that, preferring to keep the detailing as crisp as possible.

To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..
