Naughty Naughty MPC

Post by cbaltrin »

I was looking at the box of a 1/72 MPC Skyraider, and I noticed a few odd things on the photos of the built up model and have come to the conclusion, that MPC used the Fujimi kit for their box build photos! First thing I noticed was the tail -- rudder appears to have a pronounced recessed hinge line.. Fuselage fairing around the horizontal stabilized also appeared recessed... Next cowl flaps -- I could see individual flaps, unlike what airfix provides.. Forward fuselage had much more contours and details than on the airfix kit as well... under cowl air intake was rounded -- not flat like Airfix... oh, and they have a pitot tube in the tail -- no present in the airfix kit.... and a Center mounted bomb -- airfix kit has no provision for a centerline tank or bomb. Looks like they took the airfix rockets and stuck them on a Fujimi Skyraider! Tisk Tisk MPC

Someone gave me a Testors/Fujimi Skyraider and one of the first things I noticed is it is noticably larger than the Hasegawa Skyraider, I suspect it is 1/70 scale. Other than that, looks pretty nice. I did just measure the two wingspans and the Fujimi span is about 10mm greater than the Hasegawa. Free to anyone for the cost of postage from 95695, I am too big a fan of the Hasegawa kit. The decals even look useable!

Why do I hear the thread headline title in Malcom McDowell’s voice? :hmm:

1/72 Skyraider kits are out of my wheelhouse… last one I built long ago was the Monogram wide body version…

It's a fairly common occurrence.

Not in my possession. There was a article many years ago in SAE iirc about it. There were a number of AMT kits that had mpc kits as box art in the 70's. Not here to argue. Believe me or don't. No skin off my back.

I’ve always wanted to see these kits built up out of the box by the company’s builders. I know I’m not that good, but my stuff looked like a caffeinated, Tasmanian Devil built it compared to those box art builds.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..
