Thanks Kari. I have bought several models over the years that were started by somebody else, but this is the first that I’ve brought to full completion. My old IPMS chapter used to have what they called a “distressed kit” auction twice a year, in June and December. Those were kits that members started and lost interest in and were donated free to the chapter for fundraising. Some were barely started and others were quite far along. Sometimes they were missing parts and good luck to you on acquiring or scratch building a replacement. And sometimes those were simply kits that the previous owner no longer wished to build with zero defects. Those usually fetched a bit more money during the auction depending upon the subject. So yes, it is fun to take somebody else’s start, and put your own touch on it and make it your own. I have several more of these pre owned and started kits in my stash, so stand by for more of these. I’ll keep them on this thread for the Work In Progress portion of those projects.

Which reminds me that I have a D-Day wading Sherman that was a pre started project that I sidelined with my last move and need to finish up.

This was the Sherman after I had done all the changes into a D-Day wading tank, but before I started painting it… I didn’t take any photos of the basic build as received.

Your skills are really coming through on these. Taking on the work of someone else is daunting.

Thanks Lyle. Yes it is a daunting task to take on the task of completing somebody else’s work. If their work is solid, then it is less problematic, but you never know what their end goal was, only what your end vision of how the finished build will be. At the very least that usually involves a repaint.

Ah yes, the distressed kit auction. What fun! I've done a number of models acquired from that myself; including one that everyone thought was completely impossible to bring back. Yet, I did it. It was quite a surprise to everyone. and I do enjoy being able to finish someone else's work.

Mark, I have yet to finish a started kit from the distressed kit auction. I need to get on that. I am just doing this one first as our little AZ AMPS crew is sending a collection to IPMS Nationals as a tribute to their former owner. I need to get it wrapped up by this Tuesday’s IPMS meeting so I can hand it off for that destination.

Almost at the finish line... flat coat on, detail base colors on, weathering started... all that left is add the headlight lenses, dry brushing some selected items, and final weathering...

Ok, weathering is complete now. Not exactly how I envisioned it, but good enough.
