Vintage Ship model kits

Post by BlackSheep214 »

Who remembers having built the old Revell 1/350 scale model kits from the 70s and 80s? I did USS Lexington, Intrepid, Fletcher Enterprise, Independence, New Jersey, etc…
Nowadays 1/350 scale ship kits are asking stupid money - $125 and up. Heck, I can’t even find a specific vintage Revell WW2 era aircraft carrier or any ship from my younger years. Too many USS Arizona kits though. Not that I need one since I do have one started. Resuming it has been suspended for the time being.:headbang:

Most of the vintage Revell ship kits were “box scale”, not 1/350. They did do a series of 1/720 kits. But aside from a straight deck Essex Class Carrier, and HMS Ark Royal, the few other kits in that scale were mostly battleships.

Yeah.... they're asking stupid money for them. Maybe I'll get lucky at a couple antique stores I frequent at at a better price.

$125.00 is for old or small 1/350 ship kits. Most of the new stuff and larger stuff is asking twice that much for MSRP.

Those box scale kits you mentioned: I think I've built every one of them. Back in the day, they were the only game in town next to the Airfix 1/600 scale ships and the occasional Monogram and Lindbergh ship kits.

Yup. That’s why I’d love to find them for another go at it… Yorktown, Lexington, Hornet, Wasp, Bismarck, Tirpitz, New Jersey, Intrepid, etc…
