The Duke Finishes Another Aircraft in November

Post by Duke Maddog »

Here it is, just under the wire; one more aircraft finished in November. This is the ancient Airfix TBM Avenger, the first ever Avenger I ever built for my collection. This was gifted to me by two friends who won it in my club's Distressed Kit Auction. I also got a Mk.21 mine and an F-6F Hellcat from Matchbox with the Avenger.

This thing gave me quite a fight at times. The turret somehow got frosted; I have no idea how. I polished it as much as possible for hours while waiting for other models to dry. This is the end result. I also had to replace the upper decal on the wing. A good friend from my IPMS club had a spare and gave it to me so I could finish this. Again, as with my Spitfire, all eye-level shots were far too blurry for posting and will have to be re-shot later. Here is the one shot that gives you some idea of how it looks in person:

Nice Mark - I do love that fat bird Avenger. President George H.W. Bush's mount - the Chichijima story is horrific.
Nice model.
Thanks,
John

Vary nicely done Mark! Ya gotta love the “Turkey”.

Those Avengers are really great looking beasts!
Nice result Mark!

Sorry to hear about the frosted turret, at least not really visible in the picture

Thank you John Kdog! It is a big beast isn't it? I'll have to read up on the Bush story; thanks for reminding me.

Thank you Carlos! Yeah, especially since it's my first ever "turkey" I ever built!

Thank you CB!

Thank you Kari! Yeah, it is a bit of a letdown, but I'm not going to leave this on the shelf of doom because of that turret. Someone on another forums suggested that the gunner inside was imbibing too many cigars....

lol- great idea for explaining a fogged canopy. This particular pilot on this particular flight had an electrical fire which he was fortunately able to extinguish :giggles:
Thanks,

Nice
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..
