Fujimi 1/72 E14Y Glenn

Post by BorgR3mc0 »

One of my current projects is a Fujimi 1/72 E14Y Glenn. Main claim to fame of this tiny float plane is that is attacked mainland USA during wwii. Plan was to fire bomb a forest and start a forest fire. Fortunately that did not work. To reach the USA it was folded and stored on a giant submarine. So it makes a nice companion for the Seiran in my collection.

Being a Fujimi kit, it is pretty good. Nice fit. This is a Hobby 2000 reboxing with a vinyl canopy mask. Not a fan of vinyl so let us see if that works.
I did add Kits world 3D decals seatbelts. Quite happy with them.

A unique and wonderful subject choice! The only confirmed aircraft type to bomb the continental USA during WWII. Looking forward to see what you do with this one.

Quite the interesting subject. The seatbelts add a lot to the interior.

So, the people who are following my Polikarpov build will recognise this progress report. I airbrushed two coats, primer and then red. I got the “great” idea that I was going to airbrush the markings. I means, a red circle, how hard can it be? Turns out that making a circle is quite hard… so I bought a circle cutter. And with that I made the marking masks.
Furthermore, the vinyl masks came lose on the curved parts. I do not like vinyl masks and this confirms why.
So, I used the waste of the mask to cut new ones from masking tape. So masking should be easy (famous last words). Then, black base then aluminium coat.

Wow…that is quite the story. Looks like you are making progress on cutting new masks.

The new masks worked. I primed (again) with mr surfacer black. Toke two coats to cover the red. Then masked some more and sprayed aluminium (Lifecolor thinned with Future). I removed the masks and everything looks quite ok. The circles are reasonably well, one on the fuselage is a bit wonky but the rest is ok.
