George S. Patton question…
What tank did he command during WW2? Obviously, it’s not the Patton tank. I’m seeing various articles online he commanded in a Jeep, others a Sherman tank.

He was too high in rank to be a tank commander in WWII. His command vehicles in the combat areas included a M20 and M3 Armored Cars, plus some Dodge WC 57 type vehicles.

That's interesting to know. It just struck me it was never known to me what vehicle he used during the war.
I knew he commanded a French Renault tank in WW1.

Pre War in stateside maneuvers he was using M3 Light tanks. But outside of battalion commanders who need to be there on the battlefield, anyone above a colonel does not belong in a tank to exercise effective command.BlackSheep214 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 9:19 am That's interesting to know. This was probably taken at the Desert Training Center in the Mojave Desert of California. Much of the territory between Indio and the Arizona border was part of this training area.

Yes, his original Branch was Cavalry. But he saw the way of the future in Armor replacing horses long before the Army Brass did.
