After some time, I found all I needed to finish this one model. It's the ancient Aurora kit of the 1/72 scale DC-9 in Hughes Airwest markings:







The yellow was a spray bomb of gloss, and the wings were a metallic silver paint from a spray bomb as well.

Tom, Hughes Air West was a regional airline that operated in the Western US. I think that they closed up shop sometime in the 80’s. I vaguely remember one of their TV commercial jingles having a phrase “Hughes Air West, Top Banana in the West…”

That's a nice yellow finish, Mark. Atlantis did a repop of this kit and I got one of those, I hear it is the best of the Aurora jetliner kits.

Thank you John! I also love doing airliners now and then. I just keep them in 1/72 scale. I just wish more companies released 1/72 scale airliners. As John Eaton mentioned, Atlantis re-released this DC-9 kit with both Hughes Airwest and TWA markings.

Thank you John Eaton! I'm still amazed at how well that yellow turned out. I also have the Atlantis re-pop that I've started already too. I'm gonna make that one a TWA bird. It is a great and easy kit to build.
