This is arguably a space subject, the first manmade machine to leave Earth’s atmosphere. I started it this morning at this month’s AZ AMPS meeting, figuring that it should be a fairly quick build project.

During the meeting I was able to build the launch pad

and for a sense of perspective as to the size of the launch platform, here is a 1/35 figure alongside

I should be able to finish up the rocket itself in my next build session.

Great project. How long did you have to build at the meeting, Carlos? Cool tool box! I found the image above in the Werner Von Braun Archives online. What a camo!

Thanks Bruce. Today was about two solid hours for building. We started a bit later than normal, as it’s usually closer to three hours. Thanks for that original period image of the A4/V-2. I have this camo scheme diagram for guidance when I get to the painting stage.

Very cool subject. I've been considering that kit myself. I did a D motor estes V2 ages ago. Took the time to airbrush a camo on it. Took it out to launch and it zoomed up into the sky, parachute failed to deploy, turned around and came screaming back down. I was bummed but it was really cool to watch - like those old black and white videos of V2 launches.

Now here's something different. Those V-2 rockets did instill fear during WW2. Looking forward to seeing more.

Cool camo!!!

That looks like fun to recreate. Are you going to print out a copy of the pattern or eyeball this?

Thanks guys! This is an enjoyable kit and I do recommend it if anyone is interested. Hopefully by next Sunday I can have the rocket built. As you can see the paint scheme will take lots of masking so it will take a few days to complete.

Have you thought of scanning the camo sheet, printing it on decal paper?

Cool subject. I think I would spend as much time plotting how to mask it up as I would spend actually masking and painting.
