A couple of Cold War Warriors.

Post by Stuart »

How do Gents.

So a new year and a new kit... or two. I had a think over the holidays and it occurred to me that although I started a few armour builds last year, I kept getting stuck in adding detail etc. and the builds kept stalling. Whilst I want to learn how to replace grab handles, add AM tracks and what-not, I do feel like I could do with building a few kits OOB just to get a feel for the building and painting process and actually get some finished builds on the shelf - besides, who doesn't love building up some old Tamiya kits.

These are the two I'm building...

I also have a Challenger I waiting in the wings.

So far I've been building up the running gear, wheels and lower hulls - bit of a slog, as both kits have a fair bit of fine flash, but I actually find the clean up and assembly bit quite cathartic.

Here's where I am with the Chieftain. All the wheels and suspension units built and I'm making a start on the hull.

Likewise the Patton.

I've not real aims for these kits other than to actually finish them. Get them built nicely, learn a bit about that process. Figure out how to brush paint such large models effectively and how to do some simple weathering. I'm going to get some Flory washes for these, as I have one already and really like working with it.

Anyway, Cheers all, I hope you're all well and Happy New Year (oh and don't ask how my January's been - it's been shit.)

Nice. You will make Carlos cry…
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Haha I think he means “cry with joy!” Cue the Imperial March and heavy breathing. Show a great meme.

This is a great project, Stuart! Those are both iconic AFVs and I like your idea to use them to gain experience! I'm looking forward to seeing this exciting plan go forth! Then build on, brother!

What he said, but with heavy breathing and the Imperial March blaring in the background.

Build—(breathing noise filtered)—On!

Cue music.

All right Stuart. Should be fun to watch. Interested in your brush painted camo schemes on these two.
Thanks,
John
