Hi folks - I left the forum when this build was still hot on the bench. Well, the project is now over and I can happily present you with the final pictures.



I gave some work and wiring on the engine



The markings were done using masks. the fuselage numbers were custom made.

Yes, I remember you working on this master piece. Monty, wished you could see me applaud you here!

What's you secret to get such an immaculate surface before getting the metallic (Alclad?) colour on here? Man, I could learn so much from you!

Thanks, Thomas. This kit was a beast to build. the kit keeps fighting back. the surface quality was really bad. lots of scratches ans many parts had orange peel surfaces. to get a smooth finish, I had to sand, surfaces, putty, sand again and again.



I use a local auto spray can called "RJ London":for the metallic color. I simply sprayed a small amount of paint into a used cup; I a few drops of thinner; and poured it into my airbrush.



The results is pretty close to Alcald. but without having to pre-coating the surface with gloss black.

Monty, that is a dynamite finish! So, is the automotive paint a lacquer? If nothing else, it has to be cheaper than Alclad.

Thanks, Lyle. yes it is automotive lacquer paint can. its chrome and doesnt need any basic gloss black. bought it for US$2 a can.



i use only a small fraction of the can to paint the MiG-17.

That is worth a try. Alclad is about $9.00 a bottle here. Thanks.

Thanks, Jim and Monty. Jim, could you not tint it with a few drops of different enamels? Swanny says you can do that with Alclad.

Hy Lyle, i tint my automotive lacquer with enamel from ModelMaster, Tamiya, Humbrol. it works.

for my thinner, I use a commercial lacquer thinnet from a hardware store. cost me US$1.5 for a liter.

I buy the lacquer thinner from the home improvement stores, etc. I see a run to Hobby Lobby or something in my future.
