Airfix 1/72 F-51D Mustang.

So I've been working on this one for a few weeks - apologies, I really should have posted it up here! :bag: My finish/build success has gone right down the toilet this year, so I wanted to build a simple kit to get finished.

This is actually my second attempt at an Airfix Mustang - this is how far the first one got before I binned it - my own fault, I knackered the wings trying to sand back the Mr Surfacer I used to fill the panel lines.

So I picked up this kit from my local hobby shop - Airfix's latest boxing of their pretty good little Mustang kit - the F-51D boxing has the un-cuffed propeller and rockets and bombs to go with it.

And this is where I was this morning... Painted and Gloss coated.

And this is where I am now - the decals are behaving really well. I'm doing the boxart scheme, Kentucky Air National Guard.

Just going to let those dry overnight before I attempt some more.

Cheers!

Nice one Stuart. What paints did you use? I like the flat aluminium, on operational birds it wasn’t as shiny as on restored warbirds. I think you got the look got well.

Thanks Borg!

The main colour was just a Tamiya TS-17 spray can - Gloss Aluminium. I brushed painted the rest with acrylics. The black was ICM's 'Black, the red was whatever I could find from Citadel collection and the gun panels were Vallejo steel brush painted over the Tamiya spray. The gloss was a Mr Super Clear gloss spray can.

There is nothing wrong with rattle cans. I have used them for several builds. Especially bare metal can be done very nicely with rattle cans.

Those look great Brog.

I agree, there's nothing wrong with using sprays, I use them all the time.

Those look very nice Remco! Particularly that red one! Wow! :wow:

I can probably count on both hands the number of kits that I’ve used a rattle can on over all the years that I’ve been painting models. I know it’s definitely a useful skill.
