The original eggplane: the XF-85 Goblin (MPM 1/72)

I just started a new build. The MPM 1/72 McDonnel XF-85 Goblin. One of their earlier kits, number 42... And it is not the upgraded version. It is a bagged kit, I bought it cheap because it had some water damage to the box.
Nothing spectacular yet but here is the start.

Reminds me to an egg craft kit... At least this one should fit any shelf!

This ought to be cool. Is this the parasite fighter they tested on the B-36 I think?

It was intended for the B-36 but tested on the B-29. The test plane was called Monstro after the whale in the Pinnocio story which swallows him.
I am still figuring out which colour to use on the tips of the rudder. The instructions say bright yellow but every picture I see it is either grey or black....

The stuff that we came up with in the 50s and 60s, sheesh. I bet that was a handful, especially when it crashed into the hook.

Slowly chipping away at this Goblin. It is an early (1994) MPM kit so every part needs preparation.
And I found out I do not have the right paints over here (I am on holiday in France). So a trip to the shops is needed. Meanwhile I build the trolley
And started painting the seat.

Yes, the U.S. had some interesting designs like the Goblin, Thunderscreech and a nuclear powered B-36.
But Europe was just as bad: Baroudeur, Saro 53 and the Coleoptere come to mind.
