AFV Club 1/350 I-19 IJN Submarine

Post by Stikpusher »

Ok, I am sliding I-19 in under the wire here for my final build completed in 2014. I actually finished the last bits of work (final weathering and prop screws added) yesterday morning and got these photos taken before I went to work yesterday. But I had not time to upload and post them until now. And as usual, a rushed photo job shows here... only about half came out halfway decently...

So here she is in the guise of her first war patrol in December 1941 while operating off the California Coast in the Santa Barbara/Los Angeles Harbor area, I-19...

I will try to get some better photos up in a few days, But I am off here shortly on a family road trip...

That is one beautiful piece of submarine! Nothing wrong with the pics, more 40's in them! :-)

Was not really aware at all, that IJN had that streamlined subs.

Starting to get more intrigued to build a submarine looking at all yours...

Happy New Year Stik and have a nice family road trip!

The IJN had some beautiful submarines... They were more handicapped by doctrine and lack of radar than anything else. They had the best torpedoes of the war, and I-19 can be credited with the best single torpedo spread ever: with 6 fired in Sept 1943 she sank USS Wasp, USS O'Brien, and damaged USS North Carolina.

Aren´t the I-19´s the ones that carried those three aircraft? I think I can see the catapult rail in front of the conning tower. And the Japanese had them as early as 1941?

Portman thank you.
Thomas, the IJN subs that carried three float planes were the I-400 class. These only carried a single floatplane each. Another I-boat sister ship of this class launched the only aircraft to bomb the mainland USA during WWII.

Easy, Thomas. This was back in WWII.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Oregon. They dropped some incendiaries into the forests there in the hopes of starting large forest fires. Unfortunately for them it was right after a period of heavy rainfall so no large fires occurred. They also did a handful of shore bombardments at night using their deck guns.
