I want to thank Tom, John, John and Carlos for your replies. These mean so much. Truly, I have missed being a part of the forum here yet at the same time I have been so extremely happy personally which changes the amount of free time I have to pursue the hobby. Carlotta and I are going to see 2001 on the big screen next month as part of a cinematographer’s screening at the new Academy Theater complex here. I’m really excited to actually be seeing someone who loves movies so much. Not just excited. Lucky. I feel lucky.

That is beautiful Bruce! We need to see more of it
March as one, Don't look back
Odin's sons... Attack!
Unleash hell! Do not repent! Warfare grants us no lament
Let your weapons slash and tear This is no place for fear
Hold the lines! Move as one! In unity our victory's won
Our shields will form a mighty wall
United we shall never fall

To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Thank you so much, Clint and Lyle! Here you go:
Here is a reference photo from “2001: Filming the Future” which is critical for understanding the exhaust weathering.
Aries IB is heavily weathered. I would take any ideas about how to get closer to the finished look. For example, the nozzles appear to be coated in a shiny metallic exhaust layer. I wonder how that was done and if I should try using crushed graphite.
Because the model is essentially the prototype for the plastic kit which will be released later this year I am being extra careful, but my mantra is “Build it, don’t let it sit” and I know you folks will understand my perspective.
