I'm wondering, does Evergreen make small tubing, or perhaps brass?

K & S Brass Tubing would be the ticket, gents. I am going to have to hold off until I have money for that option, which means after the 15th. My Dad and I used that all the time on slot cars and trains. Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and support. I am going to work on improvements to the cockpit as I have Evergreen plastic card.

Stuart, I have a feeling you are spot on that this might share DNA with a kit like the Italeri..

It wasn't a bad kit if I recall - it went together pretty well.

Have you given a thought on how much will be visible through the cockpit opening? Sometimes its easy to spin our wheels on things only to realize that they will be hidden from view later in the build. While I myself often neglect this advice, I have to say: if you can't see it... don't spend too much time on it.

Or... would the kit seat be a good base for modification? The relative shape seems to be there. Thin the sides from the outside and the set back from behind.

Bruce, the basic seat design is simple indeed. For mass production purposes of course. Aside from the perforated bar to keep the seat pack parachute in place, the design is most basic.

Good points, John. To make the seat, have you tried a beverage can? Ferris goes some masterful creations with Arizona Tea cans.

TGIF. I took everyone’s advice, generally, and John’s advice specifically, and modified the seat itself by cutting it in half. I ground down the edges with a flat file, but I was off at the bottom or overzealous and created a V-shaped notch. I filled that with Milliput (Thanks also to John for this product.)

Great work on the seat! I'm still of a mind that dislikes a floorless cockpit. I keep visualizing the pilot dropping to the bottom of the fuselage with his face pressed up against that small window in the bottom of the fuselage. I guess you had to keep your feet in the stirrups or else.
