Thanks, gents! I got the lead out to fix and finish the insignias today. I am going to address the repaired areas with putty next. then I think it is past time to glue the upper and lower wings together as one. Then I go to the swastikas, which are in sections. After that I have to add the fuselage mottling, secure all of the above with UV Flat Clear, then jump on the gear. The last bit of business will be the canopy and windscreen sections: I am still considering the look in the photographs where the canopy was removed entirely by someone before the photos were taken.

It's been really interesting to watch you work - I find break with the normal and accepted methods of building very interesting to watch. This reminds me of a guy I watch on youtube that assembles,paints and mounts his undercarriage (including the bay doors) before he paints the fuselage - it's a method I've tried to copy a few times and maybe it's one of the advantages of brush painting that you don't have to worry too much about masking areas off for spraying.

Now that I think of it, I remember a chap years ago that painted and decalled a whole Matchbox kit on the sprues - before he cut the parts off and assembled it (with filling and touch ups). I don't recall it looking too bad when he'd finished.

Brent, your work in color and weathering is phenomenal, and I want to thank you for your support. I am not deserving of brilliance though you are, sincerely! I am so grateful to have the opportunity to watch you work, and see your completed projects come to life. Thank you, Brent.

Stuart, I almost hid the fact that I was going to take this approach. I wanted to build Out of the Box so I basically could (a) shoot myself in the foot, or (b) make my own moves for better or worse. So, changing things like I did led to some insights as well as issues.

In many cases modelers have chosen subjects or time periods, preferred scale, and working approach. There is brilliance in this clarity, and it shines through like a diamond in their work.

Then there is SPAM. I believe everyone here is united in being unique and not one way, and personally I feel at home here. Humans are crafty apes, overall, but the modelers at SPAM take craftiness to another level. We build kits in cars, we build multiple scales, we engineer, we design, we source old and new, we innovate; and modelers do care about all of those things, but we do all these things with manners and kindness towards all. I am proud to be here amongst y’all.

Well, you can’t erase history of the Luftwaffe markings. Honestly, it doesn’t offend me. Neither does the star and bars flag during the Civil War.

Seriously, with as many Luftwaffe builds as are on SPAM, it is not a problem to display the swastika for reference purposes.

Now if one goes down the path espousing ideology and activity, that’s a whole different matter.

I think that the divide between the two is pretty easy to understand.

Bruce you did an outstanding job on repainting those insignia! They look like decals! Way to go man! And in my scale too; something I would never have the guts to try.

As for the swastika, it is history, it was used and as Stuart said; it is not a WWII Luftwaffe build without one. Good reference photos man. You got this.

You haven't even glued the wings together??? Mamma Mia! I still don't agree with your approach but I applaud your right to execute as you see fit! That's the beauty of modeling.

The K-4 swastikas are going to be tricky since they have white borders which is confirmed on photos of 265. Maybe do-able with masks but sometimes decals are a better option than paint masks. Never fall in love with a single technique.
