I hardly ever go beyond 2000 grit unless I had to make a total mess of the surrounding area.

Good. Good. I don't even know if I have anything beyond 2,000 grit right now, anyway. I'm just hoping my surface and the kit version match up when the paint gets involved. It's tough having both side by side as it invites comparison when it should just blend. There's a lesson in there somewhere, I think. I just did not want to leave those wide channels on the sides when the rest of the kit does not have them. Fine Molds deserves its reputation for fidelity. Airfix is value for the money and that makes sense right now.

Very interesting getting rid of the panel lines. I'm usually rescribing them.

Indeed. Scribing is next. The panel lines were just too deep and wide in these areas; much more so than the wings and tail areas. The paneling is overall more of a stylized representation than a faithful one.

Yeah. Sums things up perfectly, Mike. I think this Zero is not quite an easy building kit the way it is marketed; I’m going to need card to fill the wing to fuselage join, for example. As a first kit, I think a Tamiya kit might would be better.

That’s definitely the bottom line... or bottom panel lines. I am trying to make this kit a smidgen better overall and work on my basic scribing techniques... I hope.

I called it quits last night. Kit has been bagged. Soft plastic is not for me. I found a new Tamiya Zero for twenty quid shipped and bought it. Life is too short.

Actually I don't blame you too much, the soft plastic's not for everyone. It's funny though, I'd heard good things about this kit when it was released... I'm tempted to get one...
