I remember one year at our airshow they had the B-2 on the schedule. Well turn out it wasn't parked on the ramp waiting to take off like most the other participants are. It was actually scheduled to do a fly by and a few passes as it returned from a mission. It was actually at the tail end of a round trip flight to Afganistan to deliver some goodies. Houston was just on its way to its base (where escapes me).

Anyway it was a pretty overcast day. The show was kind of a drag because they were having to do restricted flying but were at least doing some so we could get a show. Well it was time for the B-2 to make its pass. We were North or show center maybe 100 yards and it was supposedly coming from the south. So the announcer says "folks the B-2 has just passed over show center. Watch through the clouds for a glimpse." I'm think well it must be at 10k+ feet because I don't hear or see crap. Then all of a sudden through a break in the clouds just passed us that damn thing gloriously banks out and begins a turn. I swear it wasn't more that 150ft off the groud but we didn't hear it until it was long passed us. The most amazing thing I'd ever seen from an airplane. It's almost inhumane to use that thing for war I think. In the dark you'd be dead and never know what got you. This thing just snuck over us virtually undetected in broad daylight. It was so cool man I still geek out about it. Lol thought I'd share.

I had the exact same experience at the Indianapolis 500. The B-2 did the flyby and I too was amazed that you couldn't hear anything until it was well past. It's kind of eerie. It's like the sound is catching up with it.

A couple years ago...I was building a model (in the basement)...I could hear a massive roar..."military power"!!!!
Grabbed my camera, ran outside......



Nothing quiet about that sucker!!!
She was maybe 500' AGL.
It passed over 3 times....I'm assuming it was in a holding pattern, waiting to fly-by at the airshow(20 miles away)

I remember also seeing this bird fly over the Rose Bowl Parade in 1996 and again in 2000. We were standing one block north of the parade route and we could see it in the distance lining up for the run down the street. What a sight that was! It gave me chills just watching it fly over.

Right after it passed by, I turned to my wife and said, "I'm getting a model of that plane and you are NOT saying no!"

She didn't say no....

I had mine built by 1998, and it was stolen later from the USC AF ROTC display case. I have another one of these in the stash somewhere; I do need to pull it out and re-build it.

They are something to behold, and to think that Jack Northrup had that vision so many years ago!

I am quickly forming an opinion of the Mr. Dissolved Putty. It is not entirely a good one. This stuff takes a while to dry, but when it does, it seems to be rock hard. 100 grit sandpaper takes 10-12 or more passes to remove it. I must have applied it too heavily in areas as there are numerous spider web cracks in the dried material....



I may try JimD's suggestion of thinning out Bondo Glazing and using that.
