An (not at all crap...ish) Airfix P-51D

Post by Stuart »

It occurred to me whilst I was mooching about wondering what to build, that asides from a quick build Hurricane, I haven't built anything WWII for well over a year...

..actually, its also been well over a year since I built anything that WASN'T related to a GB :hmm:

Those thoughts in mind, I pulled the only WWII kit I have out of my 'For Sale' pile (nothing else in the stash) - Airfix's new tool 1/48 P-51D. In fact this is the new new tool, as it's a new release without the tail fillet.

It has a good choice of markings...

It's been years since a built a 'stang, I have to say I'm really looking forward to it. I've not yet cracked open the box (I'm off to bed), but when I do I'll take some sprue shots.

I might actually do a few more quarter scale warbirds after this one, I fancy some easy sake-n-bake builds for a while. I will get the that harrier, but I'm really not in the mindset to do all the improvement work it needs to make it decent.

Cheers!

Oh, and BTW - Kenny and John, I blame you two for this build, what with all your stunning warbirds! This won't be stunning, but it should be fun.

Lets see if it can change my view on NT Airfix kits being crap.

Nice! I’ve done one new tool airfix - the BP defiant and was quite impressed. Looking forward to your build.
Thanks,
John

Thanks Man - hopefully it should be good, I've not done one of their 1/48 WWII kits yet.

I'm going to go with Lou IV I think... (I like the Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney but I fancy doing the camo)

Very cool! You know I've yet to build a Mustang? I have the other Airfix Mustang in the stash that I'll get to eventually.

I can believe that! I have say that asides from British stuff I've hardly built any other WWII aircraft either - I've finished even less!

I actually have a good mix of eras in my finished models. Course with five modern and one WW2 model on the bench that'll change.

Well it’s about time that Airfix released this! You could see from the tooling of the original kit that the early D without the tail filet was coming out one day.

I’ll enjoy watching this build of yours.... might have to pick one of these up for myself when they arrive on this side of the world.

Eager to see about this. I've got 5 of the new ones in the stash. Not the new new just the new. $19 at Hobby Lobby who could pass that up.
