The cowling opening is pretty big so there is a good view into the front of the engine. So yeah, I think it would add to the model if you put in the wiring, if it is not too much trouble at this stage.

Yes, thank you so much! I have some ideas about how to do this. I hope I find the small amount of copper wire purchased long ago (2018). It’s currently MIA. I really wanna fix some of the those glue blobs, too. I'm not sure how to do that.

4 hours of gluing and cutting plus one coat of Tamiya Extra Fine to reveal warts and all (small hairs, alignment issues, CA glue bobs)





I am gonna bring this Wasp Jr. as close as possible to our standards of detail. Still debating ignition wiring. Not sure yet. Oh, and Big Duke! I slightly textured the crankcase cover with Mr Surfacer 500, using a fine makeup applicator tip.

Next up: height reduction. So it goes.

Bruce I LOVE the work you did on that engine so far. That texture you laid-down on there *muuuah* magnifique. That single detail right there is gonna add so much to this beauty. Scale-indeterminate for sure.

On the subject of ignition wiring on radial engines... I was looking at some of my old attempts. They were pretty crappy. I didn’t start getting the hang of it until my 1:32 Zero, but that was Eduard’s PE wiring set. Honestly, I haven’t been happy with my own radial engine wiring jobs until I did my 1:72 Zero. That one came out good. It’s a hard job, and there’s a lot to it that I dislike. For one thing, I detest just gluing wire directly to the ring and then to the cylinder heads. It looks fine in 1:72 but frankly, for 1:48 and beyond, I feel like in need a solution where I have the actual nubs the wires come out of on the ring, and holes in the cylinder heads. I can drill the heads, but the nubs... can’t figure out how to do that with my primitive tools...

Sorry for taking the longhand way of saying- it’s hard and I get your apprehension. At the end of the day it’s all up to you and I fully support you either way. Either way, that engine is gonna look great!

Here’s how it looks temped together after much grinding fun! I used a special Dixie SOLO cup cradle with ultra smooth Kleenex tissue as a support. I may start a trend amongst our brethren for this new way of showcasing work in progress.

Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. See those ignition wires, even here in a modern version, are tight. They don’t drape or hang loose, otherwise they would blow away.

Thanks, Clint! I just don’t know how to do that yet, and yet and yet I agree I should do it. But how? And those g-d glue blobs are bothering me! This isn't ILM in 1975. I should be able to finesse CA better than that.

Needle files and time is my advice get in there and work slow untill you have the blobs at the correct shape you want. I know you can get this wired up just got to take the plunge and do it!
