Re: For the records, Karis Airfix 1/48 P-51D "project"
Finally I had some "extra" hours this evening, so I could do the major paintwork
To make the work one step easier, I decided to use masks, so I printed a simple drawing of the P-51 where I then "manually" draw the camo as good as I could. Some freehand painting was done on the fuselage.

But first the underside was painted with Mister Paints ANA 602, "Light Grey" as instructed. Many thin layers with not too high pressure is the name of the game when airbrushing MRP laquers. Unfortunately, they smell rather bad, even despite the fact I have a rather good respirator mask..

And then came the camo part, Sea grey ANA603 and Olive drab ANA 613.
First in line was the Sea grey, masking / protecting the parts that would get a layer of Olive drab.

Then "inversing" the masking for the Olive drab

After this intensive painting session, it was time to remove almost all the masking

And here she is,

Very tempting to remove also the canopy mask, but I will still keep it on as there are some touchups that is needed here and there.
I am not 100% happy with the result, but I just had to come to this point. Last time I painted an airplane was... well... in September 2017, that is more than 3 years ago. A personal milestone in other words...
Let's see what next!

The paint work looks great! But which Olive Drab did you use? It’s very green in these photos. Is it the lighting perhaps?

Thank you guys!
I followed the instructions of the decal set and used Mister Paints Olive Drab (ANA613)
I will take a picture in day-light to see how it looks like, but indeed, it is lighter than it should.

It indeed looks very light (though picture taken in the painting booth with strong cold-white light).Stikpusher wrote:The paint work looks great! But which Olive Drab did you use? It’s very green in these photos. Is it the lighting perhaps?

Paint looks really nice and smooth. I agree it looks a bit light but I have no reference to say either way. Looking forward to your next update.

Well done Kari - it looks excellent!

Paint looks nice and smooth! I use paper masks too but it can be tricky to maintain a consistent distance between the mask and painting surface. If that's not consistent, you'll get some variation in the hardness/softness of the color demarcation.
