Looks like some kind of contamination on the plastic. Strip it with yellow can easy off oven cleaner, wash with soap and water then respray. Did you say you polished the bare plastic? Not a good idea. That may be where your contamination came from. Line on the trunk lid is a mold line. Sand it off.

I did polish the plastic. I’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Thanks, my friend. At this point, it is just primer, a PIAtA, but not too bad....should I have to strip. Uh, just the primer.

Thanks for the advice, gentlemen! I had used the Novus products on parts of the body and hood. With light sanding, I was able to remove the offending areas and clean them. I did not strip the hood or body...yet. I am pretty happy with the results. I decanted some of the primer and used the airbrush. It was a much smoother coat than from the can.

Yeah, that seems obvious...now. I went ahead and stripped the hood with 99% ISO, 0000 steel wool and the fine grit sand paper. I believe the body will be okay.

Nice recovery. I love painting, but hate the surprises (aka my Jayhawk). It really is a good idea to wash but I often skip/forget. Seems the mold release agents today aren't as much of an issue. I did have an older mustang kit fisheye when the paint went on though. Cary on Lyle!
