Re: 1/48 Tamiya Me-262-Gear Bay Progress-01/20
Thanks John. I used a fine metaillic silver from Model Master in a spray can that I decanted and shot through my AB. In retrospect....what I should have used something like one of the buffable metalizers. To me the base color was a wee bit too grainy but I tried to make up for it some with some weathering. I have a very tiny amount of MM Aluminum Plate left though and I use it very sparingly. Just haven't found a suitable replacement as of yet. Perhaps if I built more aircraft I probably would've found a replacement for the "Almighty" Model Master Aluminum plate Buffing Metalizer by now. lol

News flash, a jar on eBay. Only 15.84 with shipping!
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

I think it looks fine but would recommend Tamiya AS-12 Silver when you want a grain-free metal surface but don't need it to be highly polished.

Thanks John. I'll be putting the Tamiya paint on my list of things to get as well. Really appreciate the input man.

Re: 1/48 Tamiya Me-262-Gear Bay Test Fitting
Gotcha! Shot straight through the airbrush without any thinner? I would try some thinner. If the result you posted is typical, I would look for other paints to net you a metallic finish. I use Tamiya AS-12 the same way... decanted into my airbrush cup. Some examples...
AS-12 over gloss black base

AS-12 over bare plastic

AS-12 is good for interior metal components, exterior areas that will be covered by camo paint in order to facilitate chipping. For NMF finishes, I prefer Alclad or AK Extreme Metal lacquers.

I shoot everything out of the can straight through....no thinner. I can give you glass like results every single time like that. Over the years I've chased and perfected the method in auto modeling.
I'll look at these images you posted when I get home as I'm at work and post image doesn't play well here. I will be looking this AS-12 paint up for sure. Man I really appreciate all your advice, resources and help.

I figured you'd have some good choices for metallic finishes, coming from the auto modeling side of things!
